Each year the CGP Foundation identifies a local medical institution or community organization that offers outreach programs for women suffering with cancer.  These under-resourced women might otherwise not seek treatment or may be unable to access collateral services that would aid their recovery.  Your participation and contribution serve the women in our community through organizations already involved in their care.  CGP makes it possible for these women to receive services beyond medical treatment.

CGP Foundation is proud to announce that the 2007 recipient of the proceeds raised from its annual cgoespinkbox  fundraiser will be to expand the art and music therapy program  provided by   SmallHoly Cross

Arthur Hyland, acting Executive Director of the Holy Cross Hospital Foundation stated, "As a way to help all our patients cope, art and music therapy is currently provided at all our cancer treatment locations for all oncology patient populations.  As one patient stated, “sometimes life beats us down and robs our soul and programs like this remind us that we have one.”

What is Holy Cross Hospital doing for our community?

Cancer amongst women is all too familiar to the team of specialists at Holy Cross Cancer Institute.

  • In 2006, their team treated 69 new lung cancer patients; 450 breast cancer patients, 83 women with ovarian cancer and 237 women with cervical and other gynecological cancers.   Also in 2006, Holy Cross Hospital, for the first time, experienced a rise in gynecologic malignancies over breast cancer with 24% of the women being treated having gynecologic malignances vs. 22% with breast cancer.
  • In 2005 Holy Cross Hospital treated 138 new cases of uterine cancer which accounted for 10.3% of all cancers seen. The overall volume of gynecologic cancer cases makes Holy Cross Hospital a market leader within the region.
  • In fiscal years 06 and 07, Holy Cross Hospital treated 1,495 female oncology inpatients and 5,264 female oncology outpatients.
  • Holy Cross Hospital provided financial assistance from 25% to 100% to 18 female inpatients and 269 outpatients.
  • In 2005 $9 million was spent on direct charity care for needy patients with an additional $19.6million in other community benefits
  • FYE 2007 spent $40,000-$45,000 on needs of hospice patients and families for non-health insurance expenses. The majority of these patients were of little means and well over 60% were oncology patients
  • Provides 45% of all hospital charity care in Montgomery County
  • At the Holy Cross Hospital Health Center at Montomgery College, it provides free or low-cost primary care to uninsured adults and training to health care professionals

How can my dollars benefit women with cancer at Holy Cross Hospital?

Donations offset the costs of providing traditional (cancer treatment, medications, surgery, etc.) and non-traditional care to female oncology patients.  A constant struggle for cancer patients is their attempt to live a normal life.  Assistance to provide meals, transportation and other forms of non-traditional and unreimbursed care are provided daily by Holy Cross Hospital.  As part of our holistic approach to cancer treatment, the Holy Cross Hospital Cancer Institute has a goal to provide a variety of supportive care programs to address the stress, anxiety and depression many cancer patients experience.
Offering a program such as these are not covered by insurance reimbursements and charitable donations will help Holy Cross Hospital fund and expand this care. With over 1500 new cancer cases each year, the need is great and the resources are limited.  Please give as generously as you can and join us in this celebration of life which will help local women in need cope with their new life as a cancer patient and, God willing, as a cancer survivor.
