What triggered
 cgoespinkbox1

was created by breast cancer survivor Marcey Zaborski.  At the time that Marcey was diagnosed with breast cancer, she was self-employed and had just begun a new contract.  She worried not only about living but also about the potential financial impact that could result from the loss of work. The emotional impact was equally daunting.  Having had female members of her family as well as friends who had experienced cancer, Marcey was painfully aware of the need for legal advice to get her personal affairs in order, the potential gap between insurance and actual costs for treatment, and the residual effects of treatment that could require plastic surgery, medicines, wigs or other collateral services which are often not covered by insurance.

After completing her treatment, Marcey could not help but wonder what a woman would do if she did not have insurance or the financial wherewithal to seek treatment or, when in treatment, to be able to go through it with dignity.

A Sunday Walk...

On the WMZQ Sunday morning public service segment, she heard her surgeon, Dr. Katherine Alley, talking about the need for funds for under-resourced women.  Ironically, that same day, while walking down Wisconsin Avenue in Chevy Chase, Maryland, Marcey saw a woman sitting on a bench with a sign that read, "I have been diagnosed with cancer and I have no insurance, could you help me."  She otherwise appeared to be well-maintained, and it seemed an oxymoron for someone so well put together to be out on the street seeking help for cancer treatment.   Marcey stopped to talk to her, and it became evident that this woman was truly in need of help.  She put something in her bucket and resumed her walk - but the encounter had left an indelible image in her mind.  Megaphone

The Message Heard Twice...

A dear friend of Marcey's had always told her that before relying on a statement about an issue, she had to hear it twice.  Within a matter of hours, Marcey heard this issue on the radio and then from someone who was actually living the experience...that was twice!  It was time for action!

A Country Fundraiser..mving guitarribbon no year

music notesListening to her favorite country music, she continued on her walk and started to smile as she visualized a pink ribbon doing a line dance in boots and a stetson.  What could be done to raise funds that was different from running, walking or biking and was not done everyday?  In that moment, cgoespinkbox was born.
